Abhijit Chowdhary

About Me

I am a 5th year PhD student at North Carolina State University, studying under Dr. Alen Alexanderian.

I am a computational mathematician and my research interests lie in wielding math to design algorithms for real-world problems. Currently, I practice that in developing scalable algorithms to quantify, analyze, and control the uncertainty inherent in mathematical models. During my Ph.D., I focused on the uncertainty quantification (UQ) of large-scale inverse problems for physical phenomena governed by partial differential equations (PDEs). At the moment, I’m looking to direct my research interests in the directions of

• High performance computing.
  • Building computational tools and algorithms for large-scale scientific problems
  • Scaling to the highly distributed setting / GPU friendly algorithms
  • Writing and maintaing open research software
• Neural surrogates for UQ
  • Deriving reliable approximation guarantees
  • Exploring architecutres more informed to model and physical structure
  • Applications towards solving previously intractable problems in UQ
• Structure exploiting algorithms
  • Randomized algorithms that scale in the ‘information dimension’
  • Leveraging spatial or temporal structure. For example heirarchical matrices or tensors formatted data
